Shiatsu & Thai Massage
Shiatsu is an ancient form of Japanese Acupressure that began over two-thousand years ago. In fact, Shiatsu means "finger pressure" in Japanese. Like acupuncture, Shiatsu is based on the holistic system of Tradition Chinese Medicine, in which illness is thought to be the result imbalance of the flow of energy, or Chi, in the body. By focusing on Chi instead of only muscles and tissue, Shiatsu gets to the root of Chi blockages which cause pain, discomfort and disease. Therefore, Shiatsu can affect all aspects of the body, mind and spirit.
Like Shiatsu, Traditional Thai Massage Therapy is used to treat an imbalanced energy within the body which can manifest itself as illness and pain. Thai Massage is influence by many paths of medicine such as Chinese Medicine, Areveda, ancient Thai indigenous practices but is especially influenced by Hatha Yoga. Thai massage will involve massage along the "Sen Line" or energy pathways as well as a series of passive yoga stretches to help deepen relaxation further into muscles. As a result you will become more and more flexible over time, which can help prevent injury in the future.
Shiatsu and Thai Massage are deeply therapeutic and are typically practiced on a floor mat with clients fully clothed. Rhythmic palming and finger pressure as well as passive stretching are used to acheive balance within the body's energy flow. As the energy becomes more balanced, the body can revive and heal itself from the battle of everyday stresses.
